Ana Milva Gomes
Biography
Having spent her childhood in Rotterdam, Ana Milva Gomes – a Dutch-born singer with Cape Verdean roots – moved to Amsterdam in 2000 to study at the Lucia Marthas Musical Academy. In Elton John & Tim Rice’s Aida, she impressed in 2005 as Nehebka and as the understudy for Aida. Her talent spoke for itself, as shortly afterwards she took over the lead role of Aida and toured Austria, Germany and Switzerland. She then appeared on stage as Nala in THE LION KING in Hamburg. There, she also starred in the German-language premiere of TARZAN in 2009. She made numerous guest appearances, including in HOLIDAY ON ICE and at the Alte Oper Frankfurt with the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg.
Since 2011, she has been delighting audiences in Vienna in countless leading roles. Musical fans have seen her as Deloris van Cartier in SISTER ACT, as Mary Magdalene in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and as Paulette Buonufonté in LEGALLY BLONDE. In 2014, she played Donna in MAMMA MIA!, becoming the first Black actress to take on the role. She was nominated for the Austrian Musical Theatre Award for her performance as Baroness von Waldstätten in MOZART! In 2015, she appeared as a judge on the Kiddy Contest on Puls 4. She then took to the stage as Dionne in HAIR at the Theater Magdeburg and as Betty Jean (WINTER WONDERETTES) at the Kammerspiele der Josefstadt.
Ana Milva Gomes captivated a wide audience in 2017 during the eleventh series of *Dancing-Stars* (ORF), where she danced her way to second place. As Oda Mae Brown, she impressed the audience at the Linz Landestheater in *GHOST – A MESSAGE FROM SAM*. She also played the role of Inez in ZORRO at the Winzendorf Musical Summer, Shug Avery in THE COLOR PURPLE at the NDSM Amsterdam, and Justice Charlier in ROCK OF AGES at the Amstetten Musical Summer. For her portrayal of Nicki Marron in BODYGUARD at the Ronacher in Vienna, she received the Broadway-World Austria Award for Best Supporting Role in a Musical. From 2019 to 2022, Ana Milva Gomes impressed audiences in Vienna in the role of Grizabella in the hit musical CATS. She then moved from the Ronacher Theatre in Vienna to the Raimund Theatre, where she appeared on stage from 2022 to 2024 as Mrs Van Hopper in the musical thriller REBECCA. In the summer of 2024, she appeared once again at the Musical Sommer Amstetten, this time in WE WILL ROCK YOU as Killer Queen. She is currently touring the Netherlands with SISTER ACT as the alternate Deloris Van Cartier.
