James Park
Biography
Born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1990, James Park is a versatile tenor and performer whose career spans opera, operetta and musical theatre in Germany and Austria.
He began his thorough musical training in Germany, studying classical singing at the Robert Schumann University of Music in Düsseldorf. After graduating with a bachelor's degree, he joined the Niederrhein Opera Studio at Theater Krefeld-Mönchengladbach. During this period, he gained valuable stage experience, appearing in opera and musical productions including My Fair Lady (as Freddy) and Der goldene Drache (The Golden Dragon) (as the Young Asian). He was nominated as best young singer in North Rhine-Westphalia for the latter role in 2019. His other opera roles at the theatre included the Second Jew in Salome and the Second Priest/First Armoured Man in The Magic Flute. His most recent role at Theater Krefeld-Mönchengladbach was Anthony in Sweeney Todd.
He then moved on to the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (VBW), where he performed in leading musical roles at the Raimund Theater, including Thuy in Miss Saigon, Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar, and Frank Crawley in Rebecca. He was awarded Best Supporting Actor in a Musical at the 2022 BroadwayWorld Austria Awards for his portrayal of Frank Crawley.
Following his time at the VBW, James Park became a permanent member of the ensemble at the Vienna Volksoper, performing in opera, operetta and musical theatre productions. In musical theatre, he played the lead role of Tony in West Side Story, as well as Chino. He was also part of the ensemble in Lass uns die Welt vergessen (Let's Forget the World), appearing in opera roles including the Second Priest and the First Armoured Man in Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute). In operetta, he played St Brioche in Die lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow).
In 2024, he performed in the open-air theatre premiere of Wolf – Das Mystical at the Salzkammergut Seebühne on Lake Wolfgang, playing the role of Heinrich.
In the same year, James Park was also a finalist on the ORF show 'Die Große Chance – Let's Sing and Dance'.
