Russi Nikoff
Biography
The baritone was born in southern Bulgaria and initially completed his training at the Pancho Vladigerov Academy of Music in Sofia. He then continued his studies at international masterclasses led by Renata Scotto at the European Opera Centre in Manchester, as well as by Kostas Paskalis, Prof. Marta Lantieri and Gena Dimitrova. He also works closely with Kammersängerin Krassimira Stoyanova, with whom he performs in Vienna.
Russi Nikoff's multifaceted repertoire encompasses opera and concert literature. This has led to engagements for various opera roles, as well as for cantatas, oratorios and symphonies. He has played roles such as Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia (G. Rossini), Germano in La Scala di Seta (G. Rossini), Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro (W.A. Mozart), Leporello in Don Giovanni (W.A. Mozart), Marcello in La Bohème (G. Puccini), Rodrigo in Don Carlos (G. Verdi), Germont in La Traviata (G. Verdi), Escamillo in Carmen (G. Bizet), Onegin in Eugene Onegin (P. I. Tchaikovsky), Amonasro in Aida (G. Verdi), Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia (B. Britten), Count di Luna in Il Trovatore (G. Verdi), and has performed in The Seasons (J. Haydn), Beethoven's 9th Symphony and Carmina Burana (C. Orff).ff, and in The Birth of Christ by A. Miller.
Russi Nikoff has performed guest roles in Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Japan, Egypt, China, France, Italy, England, Cyprus, Switzerland, Germany, Bulgaria and Austria. Venues he has performed at include the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, the Théâtre Claude Debussy in Paris, the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, the National Opera in Sofia, the Festival of the Aegean in Syros, the Tibor Varga Opera Festival in Switzerland, the St. Margarethen Opera Festival, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Main Hall of the Cairo Opera, the Dvořák Hall in the Rudolfinum in Prague and the Opera City Concert Hall in Tokyo, to name a few.
