When he left in 2025 after ten years, there wasn't a dry eye in the house, so this performance will be a joyful reunion – Yutaka Sado, the Tonkünstler's first honorary conductor, is returning! He is doing so with music by Ludwig van Beethoven: he once made his mark on music history with his late First Symphony. This was not least to later reveal his political stance through the music he composed for Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's tragedy Egmont. Magnus Lindberg's music is also free of avant-garde dogma: his captivating viola concerto, dedicated to soloist Lawrence Power, transcends the boundaries between past and present.
