Description
This brilliant programme features some of the most popular works by the Romantic composer Robert Schumann, characterised by splendour and passion, tender poetry and rousing verve. Composed during a happy period, the 'Rhenish' Symphony is a masterpiece that balances cheerfulness and thoughtfulness. In contrast, the Piano Concerto in A minor is a musical testament to Schumann's love for the piano virtuoso Clara Wieck, as well as to the couple's struggle to be permitted to marry. She performed as the soloist at the premiere, after which she became Schumann's wife.
This work is presented by the multi-award-winning pianist Sergey Tanin, who lives in Basel, with the Tonkünstler Orchestra. The young Colombian conductor Ana María Patiño-Osorio will be celebrating her debut with the Tonkünstler Orchestra.
The introductory talk will begin one hour before the concert starts.
